On my way to Salem one day I saw two pheasants take flight and cross the 

road ahead of me.  The first one cleared the road and made it safely to the tall grass.  The second wasn’t so lucky and was struck by the car just ahead of me. I stopped to gather up some of his tail feathers and wished I could bring him back to life again.  I laid him to rest at the side of the road knowing that one more bird specimen in the freezer would send my wife over the top.
